Chlorides Content Testing
|
Chlorides may be introduced deliberately as accelerator during original construction, in the form of natural ingredients, or by natural exposure to salty water environment. Capillary suction and evaporation of saline ground waters causes saturation and crystallization in the concrete. Chloride is one of the two main causes of steel reinforcing corrosion. The reaction of mature concrete with sulfate ion affects the concrete strength. The determination of the chloride ion concentration is not only required by code for coastal areas, it is essential to specify the scope of work and materials for restoration.
