Epoxy-Injected Depth Testing
|
Connections among sections of old concrete with fresh concrete is frequently designed by adding steel reinforcing injected with epoxy, a high strength adhesive, into the old concrete. Since the connection transmit high tensile load along the embedded epoxy in contact with the old concrete, the length of the epoxy-injected penetration is very important to avoid cracks or collapse in the future. A mapping of the penetration is critical to ensure that the depth of the epoxy and steel reinforcing complies with the drawings and specifications. The mapping is performed using Ground Penetrating Radar technology.
