Sealants Hardness and Humidity Testing
|
The sealants must have a certain degree of flexibility and also strength to accommodate to differential movement between different materials, keeping the joint among them continuously sealed. The humidity content affects the mechanical resistance of the sealants. In addition, if the chemical composition of the sealant is not adequate to resist UV rays, the sealant will dry out quickly, loosing strength. If it is too dry is bad as if it is excessive humid. Testing the hardness and elasticity of the sealant will provide actual mechanical properties to compare with the specifications or standard performance in the industry.
