Cracks on slab on grade will allow for radon gas penetration, chemical contaminants for the concrete, moisture penetration  into he concrete causing delaminations and reinforcing steel corrosion, differential settlement create a trip hazard, flooding when cracks get large making the walking areas slippery., excessive moisture increases the relative humidity becoming a health hazard, and others deleterious consequences on the structure.  Visible cracks on the surface of slab on grade can be the result of voids underneath, not enough concrete thickness, not enough reinforcing steel, improper reinforcing depth, settling, thermal stress, and others.  Ground Penetrating Radar using electromagnetic pulses technology, will map the slab where the cracks show up, providing information about the slab thickness, reinforcing steel depth, and layout to discriminate the causes of the cracks.
